Two-year starter. Transfer from Arizona State prior to the 2024 season. Former walk-on who earned a scholarship after his freshman season after leading the team in sacks. First-team All- Big 12 and Defensive Newcomer of the Year in 2024, second-team All-Pac 12 in 2023. Typically aligns as a stand-up wide nine technique with some reps at 4i in Colorado’s defense. Short, stout edge rusher with decent weight and lacking arm length. Acceleration upfield is eye-opening. Power on initial contact to back tackles up into the quarterback; impressive speed-to-power. Wins in pass rush both on the edge and inside the tackles. Has shown a few ways to get to the quarterback including a swim move, club move, chop-and-rip, and long-arm. Notable bend to flip his hips and corner effectively. Excellent suddenness and quality agility to work into the gap immediately on stunts and loops. Versus solo blocks, anchors well with low pads. Against tight ends, engages with square hips to peek and locate the ball carrier. Does not shy away from contact when taking on pullers. Reliable tackler who wraps up and drives his feet. High motor player in pursuit downfield. Slow reaction speed to the snap; struggles to beat tackles to a point. Needs to use more counter rush moves when his initial move doesn’t work. Struggles to extend and shed with length deficiencies. Against zone blocking schemes he gets washed out of the play regularly. Tightness in his hips shows up when redirecting. In coverage he is still learning how to leverage an area and is slow to get to his landmark.
