Two year starter. Transferred from North Carolina in 2022 and red-shirted. Played six seasons total. Undersized for a linebacker but ultra-athletic. Speed and agility are impressive with incredible chase ability. Patient read and sudden reactions when he “sees it.” Can quickly attack downhill to make a play in a gap. For his size, packs a punch to stun and shed blocks. At his best working through blocks on the move. Redirects in a short space, sticks his foot in the ground and accelerates getting to the play. Recovers quickly if out of position. In coverage, speed makes him a threat as he covers a lot of ground on the throw. Flashes ability to react to route combinations and the quarterback. Sudden to break on short throws in underneath zones. Covers backs man to man through the route tree out of the backfield. Exhibits speed coming off the edge or inside on blitzes, can outrun blocks. Chases in the backfield with acceleration to close. Range to chase and tackle is elite, making some big hits in space. Will occasionally overrun a tackle by not gathering. Inside run fits can be off and is prone to fakes and misdirection. Will run around blocks taking himself out of a gap. Struggles to shed straight up inline blocks. Zone coverage is inconsistent as he can get attracted to underneath eye candy opening up an intermediate throwing lane. Will cover grass at times not reacting to pattern pressure. Has solid tools but inconsistency is something to improve on. Was a special team ace at Appalachian State and projects as a core special team player and developmental backup.
