One-year starter. All-Big 10 last season. Edwards was the Robin to Blake Corum’s Batman for the first three years of his career. While he was never the feature back, he did flash all three years and made a name for himself by playing big in big games. He was the Big 10 Championship game MVP in 2022 and scored two first quarter touchdowns in the 2023 National Championship. In between the highlights were long stretches of ineffective play in addition to two injuries. Showed toughness and grit, playing with screws in his hand and a partially torn patellar tendon in his knee. While he has enough speed to pose as a big play threat and he is a try-hard blocker, he never took the next step. Can put his foot in the ground and go. Excellent acceleration with the gear to get away from the defense in space. Moves within the structure of a play. Adds value as a blocker. Lacks power and push inside. Does not break tackles often and will struggle to pick up yards after contact. Ball security and receiving skills need to improve to warrant usage. Struggles to feel the defense and rushing lanes. He is worth putting at the back end of the depth chart knowing he can be explosive and handle some of the pass protection roles, but the timid running style and lack of feel may limit the optimism.
