Four year starter (three at Cal Davis). First team All-ACC in 2024, second team All-Big Sky in 2023. Transferred from Cal-Davis in 2024. Solid build and height for an off the ball linebacker. Athletic with fluid movement skills that translate well to the position. Has some versatility playing off the ball all along the front along with some time on the ball as a wide 9. Playing the run uses the shuffle, press and alley progression and is patient with initial read. Effective getting to the alley on scrapes as the ball moves outside. Has some twitch changing directions and redirects well in a short space. Moves well laterally staying on the back hip of the ball carrier maintaining leverage moving outside. Has a closing burst and covers a lot of ground chasing. Can play in space making fundamentally sound tackles gathering and finishing. Often used to blitz off the edge, speed has gotten him to a lot of plays in the backfield. As a zone defender has a feel for pattern pressure, the delivery key, and throwing lane. Sudden break on the throw he’s been productive with eight career interceptions and 11 pass breaks. In man coverage has match and mirror ability and has speed to stay with a back up the field. Not an aggressive downhill reactor, he can get tied up on blocks on inside runs. Some hesitation shows on tackle to tackle fits and climbing blockers can easily get at him. Lacks pop to take on blocks and is often knocked off path. Projects as a cover linebacker and special team player. Needs to improve run defense to play three downs.
