Three year starter (one at South Carolina). Transferred from South Carolina in 2023. Honorable mention All-Pac 12 in 2023 and third team All-Big 10 in 2024. Has a tall, lean but muscular frame with solid NFL edge traits. Has alignment versatility and has played wide nine down to a four technique. Played from both a two and three point stance. Decent get off with flashes of powerful hand usage setting the edge and can chase to the perimeter. Shows power to hold the point of attack from a three point stance. Stacks and sheds straight up blocks and can locate the ball working inside. Solid tackling skill he can wrap and drive consistently making the play in-line to outside. As a pass rusher, is adept at a bull rush knocking a blocker back into the quarterback. Can be opportunistic coming off the block making a sack on a collapsed pocket. Shows bend and squeeze turning the corner on a blocker enroute to the quarterback. Shows speed to power and at times uses hand swipes, rips, and chops to get free. Not an elite lateral mover working off his gap. Change of direction is average and he can get caught in the wash sifting back inside. Doesn’t consistently show a powerful pop using his hands to create separation. At times can get reached on the edge allowing outside runs. As a pass rusher, lacks consistent finish and could use more of a counter move. Not a great hustle player on plays away from his area and his motor tends to run hot and cold. Burch has the physical tools NFL teams look for in a position versatile defensive lineman. Needs to develop consistency to reach his potential.
