Syracuse | Hometown: Camden, NJ | HT: 6006 | WT: 188 | 40 time: 4.50 | Hand: 0912 | Arm: 3112 | Wing: 7800
Three-year starter. Plays a mixture of deep safety and nickel in Syracuse’s three-high defensive scheme. Well undersized safety with a thin frame. One of the most fluid movers in the draft, glides across the field in a split second. Excellent back pedal with exceptional fluidity in his lower half to change direction immediately. Range to excel in both one-high and two-high coverages. Able to recognize and react to route concepts in his peripheral while reading the quarterback. In underneath zone coverage he has an excellent feel for leverage to take away multiple threats, and reacts quickly to make a play on the ball once it is thrown. On screens he will run through blocking receivers to get into the backfield and tackle the receiver. Reliable run defender who will fly into the box to tackle ball carriers in the trenches. Rapidly breaks down with square hips and in good position to tackle. Extensive special teams experience that will translate to the next level. Susceptible to double moves and struggles to catch up when he falls out-of-phase. Takes some time to plant his foot and drive on routes underneath him from deep safety. Despite solid ball skills, lacks production to back it up. Fringe ability to shed blocks and can get completely washed out of the play. Considerable strength deficiencies that make it difficult to bring ball carriers down. Open-field tackling needs to improve; far too many misses. Inconsistent effort in pursuit.
