Three-year starter. First-team All-America in 2023 by PFF, two-time All-Big 10 selection. He typically aligns as the nickel with extensive snaps at safety as well. Solid height and length with some weight concerns. Versatility will be enticing for teams at the next level. At nickel, his physicality at the line-of-scrimmage sets him apart with a strong jam while matching them step-for-step off the line. From two-high alignment, he protects the deep half of the field while maintaining leverage over his threats. Enticing athleticism; quick feet, lateral agility, and notable short-area burst underneath to click-and-close on receivers in a hurry. Considerable change-of-direction skills when breaking on the ball and flipping downfield after the pass is thrown past him. Excellent job at undercutting routes, and high-pointing passes to come away with interceptions and breakups. A tough run defender who seeks out contact when coming downhill to fill run lanes. Sets the edge on the perimeter with authority and will force the ball carrier inside. Violent, sound tackler who brings ball carriers down with regular success. A high effort player who sprints to the ball every chance he gets. Some areas for improvement in man coverage as he needs to stay square longer to prevent receivers from crossing his face, and utilize active feet to stay in-phase with receivers at the top of their route. Struggles to get back in-phase when receivers separate. Bigger blockers such as tight ends can overpower him on the edge and drive him out of the play. Needs to work on his pursuit angles towards the sideline as he often overruns the ball carrier.
