Four year starter. Pierce continues to ascend. Originally a walk-on, he was an honorable mention All-Big 10 tackle this past season. Physically has the measurables with height and weight and long arms to be an NFL tackle. Uses his body to run through defenders working his feet, and his length helps him mop up any late rushers. Has a good anchor when getting bulled back. Good physical attitude about how to play the game. A mauler. Has limitations in redirecting a rusher. Sometimes bails out too quickly in pass protection. His 40-yard time is slow, speed guys will give him trouble. Like most big guys, he needs to get better knee bend. Oversets in pass protection and does not have adequate recovery quickness which he needs to continue developing. The right tackle position doesn’t present nearly as many challenges as the left. Will be best suited for a power offense scheme. However, speed and quick defensive linemen can be a problem. Coming off of a great career as a walk-on tackle, he has shown great character and leadership throughout his career. A developmental player who could surprise many.
