Two year starter. Honorable mention All-Big 10 in 2023 and second team All-Big 10 in 2024. Muscular frame with thick powerful legs. Classic box linebacker who likes to hit. Plays downhill with tackle to tackle efficiency racking up tackles. Reads keys and locates the ball with precise inside run fits. Attacks blocks with powerful knee bend and strike to shrink running lanes. Often pops blocks with a powerful old school forearm on his way to the ball. Has knocked bigger bodies on their back. Moves well laterally with a quick shuffle to leverage the ball carrier. Normally takes the right angle to the ball. Delivers a blow sinking his hips, wrapping and driving through tackles. Can redirect in a short space on cutbacks and plays bouncing outside. In coverage can match a back on a flat release but lacks sustained speed to stay in phase up the field. Occasionally puts too much focus on delivering a blow to a blocker over pursuit. Angles to the ball suffer as a result. As plays get outside the alley, his pursuit and tackle efficiency wanes and there’s been some misses in space. Zone coverage is inconsistent and depth of drop can be too shallow. Some hesitation on run/pass reads leaves him in the no cover zone. Agility in the open is average and he’s had marginal success in coverage. Has played all the special teams successfully and will be an asset there as a result. Needs to upgrade zone coverage but projects as two down and special team player in the NFL.
