Part time starter the last two seasons. Rotational player with height, size, and length. Solid frame with well proportioned upper and lower body. Has played anywhere from a 4i to a zero technique. At his best shading an offensive lineman. Quick powerful first step, he shoots strong hands into blocker’s numbers. Normally plays with knee bend keeping a low pad level on initial strike. Can get under a blocker’s pads and snap his head back on contact. Adept at getting upfield playing through a gap. Can get skinny to the line getting in the gap and disrupting in the backfield. Does a good job knocking a blocker’s hands away and often uses a quick arm over or dip and rip to get free. Holds the point of attack consistently and locates the ball with a feel for blocking schemes. Above average lateral movement gets him in on a lot of plays along the front. Often used to slant a gap over his quickness can create havoc with blocking schemes. As a pass rusher he can work around a blocker’s pass set with quick hands and bend. Shows a bull rush to shrink the pocket and has flashed hand swipes and arm under and over effectively. Not as effective against double teams as he can get knocked upright at times. Has some problems fighting pressure against down blocks and can get washed out. Inconsistent with pass rush as powerful blockers can neutralize his charge. Success with arm over is hit or miss and he can get stalled on the line. Lacks a consistent counter to initial move. There’s a lot to like with definite upside. With some development he’ll fit well as a solid rotational player.
