Three-year starter. Two-time first-team All-MWC the past two seasons. Typically aligns from five-tech to nine-tech with his hand in the dirt. Short but well-sized defensive end with solid arm length. His initial steps upfield are quick and vast. Fires into linemen like a bullet off the snap to get immediate knockback, and shows relentless energy making him a challenge to block. Lands his hands inside helping him control linemen inside or on the edge. Quick to diagnose running concepts. Decent at setting the edge and able to contain with authority. Impressive short-area burst and lateral agility when tightening down on the edge and will burst inside to tackle ball carriers in the A-gap. Highly predictive pass rusher with 24 sacks across three seasons. Active, polished hands in pass rush that prevent linemen from getting their hands on him. Shows a decent chop-and-rip with solid cornering ability as he flips his hips inside. Redirects inside of tackles with a quick arm-over to apply pressure. Finishes tackles with violence and wrap-up. Will sprint downfield to tackle runners from behind. His aggressive approach makes him prone to getting snatched and thrown into the dirt. Longer tackles can mirror and make him dance around at the line-of-scrimmage. Strength concerns show up when attempting to shed blocks against linemen and tight ends in the run game. Despite his production, does not show a lot of pass rush moves in his arsenal and often relies on his bull rush. Tightness in his lower half hinders his ability to bend around the edge and loop inside successfully.
