Four year starter (three at Idaho State). First team All-Big Sky and first team FCS All-America in 2023. Has played six years of college football with the first two at Oregon State in the Covid years 2019-20. Transferred to Idaho State in 2021 and from there to California in 2023. Compact frame with less than ideal stature for a corner. Played outside zone concepts with a lot of cover three, quarters and variations. Also played off and press man. Stays low in his pedal with foot quickness and well-timed transitions to lateral and turn and run. As an outside zone defender, flashed vision to see the quarterback and react to route combinations. Usually didn’t get attracted to eye candy in the short zones from the deep outside. Coverage is sticky in press man using a stiff off-hand jam on outside releases. Has the ability to mirror throughout the route tree. In off coverage, mixed normal pedal and turn with a catch technique as the cushion broke. Possesses recovery speed if beaten on a route break. Has been highly productive getting his hands on balls. In man coverage, can get his hands in the basket at the catch point. Willing tackler but has some misses against shifty receivers. Wrap and drag tackler. Some segmentation in transition causes a hang up or false step on a break and drive. This also shows up occasionally transitioning out of a pedal. Eye discipline can be inconsistent as routes are extended. Can get separated putting him in recovery mode. Had some trouble locating the ball in phase this past season. Played mostly outside, but tools could be a fit as a slot corner.
