Four year starter. First team All-Big 10 and second team All-America in 2023. Freshman All-America in 2021. Honorable mention All-Big 10 in 2024. Has been a starter since his first game as a freshman in 2021. Battled through injuries early in his career. Has ideal size, speed, and a physical presence on the field. Was the field corner and is experienced in multiple coverage. Played outside zone concepts including cover two, three and four. Also played off and press man. At his best in zone concepts. In off coverage shows a smooth controlled pedal timing transition to lateral and turn and run to stay in phase. As a zone defender, balances multiple routes and closes voids quickly in overlapping zones. Excellent vision to see the quarterback and route progressions and is quick to break with the ball in the air. As a hard corner, reroutes with positioning and a stiff two or off-hand jam. Adept at working under corner routes and playing up to the flat. In press often plays a soft press but flashes a physical one or two hand jam to disrupt the route. As a man defender keeps his focus on the receiver reacting to route breaks. Flashes recovery speed if beaten. Physical in run support he can take on blocks, separate and locate the ball. Has fundamental tackling skill gathering and driving through ball carriers. Rarely misses. In man coverage has struggled with shifty receivers route breaks. Can get a little grabby at times if beaten. Has had some trouble locating the ball in phase and ball production has been lacking. Has given up some big plays despite being in position. Will have to play in the right scheme but he should be a plus special team player.
