Three year starter. Second team All-Pac 12 in 2023 and honorable mention All-Big 10 in 2024. Muscular build but slightly undersized for the position. Started his career as a safety before switching to linebacker in 2022. Played inside with some overhang versus ten personnel. Shows leadership quarterbacking the defense, getting everyone lined up. Quick read and react with initial downhill movement creating an “L” to the ball on running plays away from his gap. Inside run fits are normally solid from alley to alley. Flashes explosive strikes attacking blockers getting his hands in the frame and separating. Can disengage on the move and find the ball. Rarely stays blocked and can outrun second level blocks to the perimeter. Excellent chase player with sideline to sideline range. Shows blitz skill as he can hit a gap and run down ball carriers in the backfield or pressure the quarterback. Strong in both man and zone pass coverage. Back pedals in zone drops keeping eyes on the quarterback while using peripheral vision to see route combinations. Quick to break on underneath throws. Shows man to man skill with speed to cover backs and run with inside receivers upfield. Above average change of direction allows him to mirror route breaks and stay in phase. Flashes recovery speed if beaten on a cut. Can be impatient on run reads and go back door, under running the play. Occasionally overruns a gap allowing a cutback. Sometimes loses ball side leverage getting on the wrong side of a block. At times keeps focus on the quarterback in zone and loses sight of crossing routes in his area. Has some areas of improvement but three down potential as a Will. Should be effective on special teams.
