Junior entry, one-year starter. All-Big 10 in 2024. After beginning his career as a short yardage back for the Ducks, James led the Pac 12 in yards per carry (7.1) in 2023 as he shared the backfield with eventual pro Bucky Irving. Took over the lead role last fall and maintained a high level of per-touch production. Plays with quick speed and excellent contact balance, making him a threat to create any time he touches the ball. His sturdy build and physical brand help him stay on his feet. While he does not always feel the defense pre-snap, he will take advantage of what is in front of him. A safe and secure, backup caliber back who is an ideal fit for a role that favors wide zone. Thick below the waist with light feet that can stick in the ground and pounce. Easy burst and acceleration when he wakes up his mind. Runs with a low pad level and will not shy from contact. Possesses great balance and control that can take a hit and stay upright. Feet are always under his hips. Did not fumble once over his career. Violent and willing blocker. Late to see the rushing lane. Too often bounces to the outside and does not square up to the line quick enough. Too often went down on initial contact. Too many drops in the passing game and was not a sharp route runner.
