Three year starter. Consensus second team All-America in 2024. Team Captain. Big physical frame with a strong upper body. Has lined up all over the Notre Dame front playing a five to a one technique. Plays with a relentless motor showing second effort during inside battles. Flashes explosiveness at the snap using big powerful hands to stun blockers and get separation. Comes off blocks and makes plays in a short space. Powerful, balanced base he holds the point versus double teams and single blocks. Normally plays with leverage on blocks and is tough to move. Moves well laterally and gets in on a lot of plays from tackle to tackle. Does well with pick and twist stunts inside. Can take out a blocker on a pick and ricochet upfield. Also used on Tex and exit stunts with good timing to work the edge. As a pass rusher, power is his friend and he can collapse the pocket with a bull rush. Shows a powerful club move to knock a blocker off balance along with a hand swipe into a rip move. Has been effective turning the corner on stunts. Not a natural knee bender, he occasionally pops up on get-off and is stalemated upright on a block. This also causes some vulnerability to double teams. Lacks great closing speed but he hustles. Can be late fighting pressure reacting to down blocks and is washed. Locating the ball versus misdirection is inconsistent and he can take himself out of a play. Needs to upgrade technique and develop more in the pass rush arsenal. He’s a versatile player who could find a rotational home in a 3-4 or 4-3.
