Five-year starter. Bronko Nagurski winner, SEC Defensive Player of the Year, and first-team All- America in 2024. Plays an assortment of roles for the South Carolina defensive front from 4i out to 9 technique. Solid build overall with great arm length. Notable bend in his stance ready to pounce. In pass rush he shows quality burst off the line and makes quality ground in his initial steps. A bruiser who is difficult to block on initial contact and will create knockback right out of the gate. Rapid arm-over move to beat tackles and tight ends right off the snap. Shows a number of moves to win in pass rush regularly. Tightens the edge to take the quickest angle to the quarterback. His speed-to-power is impressive to drive tackles back into the quarterback. Quality twitch to slant into the interior gap with a violent rip. On the interior he shoots into gaps and holds strong against the run. Sets a hard edge with strength and power. Versus pullers he sinks his pad level and squeezes inside to stalemate them. Anchors down against double teams on the interior and holds his ground. A high motor player who does not give up on the play; great effort on the backside of run plays. While his speed upfield is solid, more athletic tackles can beat him to a point and run the hoop with him. Doesn’t come into every play with a pass rush plan and can get stalemated. When his initial move does not work, he rarely displays an additional move. Needs to grasp a better understanding of his run responsibilities as he too regularly vacates his gap.
