Ohio State | Hometown: Pickerington, OH | HT: 6042 | WT: 260 | 40 time: N/A | Hand: 0934 | Arm: 3218 | Wing: 7718
Three year starter. Sawyer earned second team All-Big 10 honors in 2024. Sawyer has good height and a thick frame. Used as a wide nine down to a five technique. Powerful player with excellent functional strength. Plays with a hot motor that allows him to be constantly around the ball and get in on tackles. Explosive at the snap he has strong hands that consistently punch inside and neutralize blockers. His strength and power make him difficult for offensive tackles to sustain blocks. Shows ability to shed on the move. Sets a hard edge with the solid lateral movement inside or outside. Keeps his feet moving and makes a lot of plays inline and on the perimeter. Relentless in pursuit he’s adept at locating the ball and finishing plays with explosive tackling skill. As a pass rusher he’s more of a collapse the pocket bull rusher than a quick twitch around the edge player. That said, his speed to pressure and second effort allow him to come off blocks and close on the quarterback. Makes a lot of second effort plays in the backfield. He uses a bull rush and can work it into a stab and chop coming off the edge. He could use more pass rush arsenal as he relies too much on power and second effort to create pressure. He needs to use his hands more to get free as he can get locked up. Lacks elite quickness at the snap and gets more pressures than sacks. Closing speed appears average and his range in pursuit is somewhat limited. Lacks ideal bend to turn the corner which can be limiting rushing the passer. He’s more athletic than advertised and his motor and football IQ make up for any deficiency. Has a high floor for NFL success.
