Three-year starter. First-team All- Big 10 in 2024, honorable mention in 2022 and 2023. Typically aligned as the boundary safety in two-high coverages, and as the deep safety in one-high coverages. A well-built safety prospect with good size and muscle definition. Impressive lateral agility when dropping in coverage with loose hips, great balance, and keeping eyes on quarterback. Best in coverage when covering underneath zones where he uses his aggressive demeanor and notable instincts to jam receivers and leverage his area of the field. Makes his money as a run defender where he flies downhill to make tackles at the line-of-scrimmage, and is not afraid to throw his body on the line to lay out the ball carrier. Takes on blocks on the perimeter with assertiveness, and able to shed regularly. Takes precise angles when chasing down ball carriers on outside run plays and on the perimeter. Uses great strength and size to bring ball carriers to the ground with high consistency and often attempts to punch out the football on contact. Very reliable last line of defense. Adds value off the edge as a blitzer with bend, physicality, and a nose for the ball. A high motor player who never quits and is always hungry to make a play. Tightness in his hips matched with marginal short-area quickness makes it difficult for him to turn and run with receivers downfield. Slow to change direction and sink his hips with opposing wide receivers; he will fall out-of-phase regularly in man coverage. Insufficient burst to close space on receivers who create separation. Needs to improve his ball skills and reaction speed to passes in the air; tries to swat passes out of the air rather than playing hands. Should be an early special teams contributor at the next level.
