2025 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about CODY SIMON:
Ohio State | Hometown: Jersey City, NJ | HT: 6017 | WT: 232 | 40 time: 4.60 | Hand: 1000 | Arm: 3134 | Wing: 7578
Two year starter. Started ten games in 2021 and prior to 2024 spent much of his time as rotational linebacker and special teams ace. Three time Academic All-Big 10. Well-defined upper and lower body he shows the athleticism necessary for an inside linebacker. Patient with initial read, key diagnose and reactions are above average with solid ability fit inside gaps. Can shuffle downhill or quickly scrape to a backside or off tackle gap. Normally takes the correct path to the ball. Flashes take on ability with quick hands and power. Can slip blocks on the move without losing angle to the ball. Stands his ground with knee bend when confronted by powerful blockers. Moves well laterally and has range to chase to the perimeter. Normally tackles well in space with gather, drive, and finish. When used to blitz can chase in the backfield or clog up a running lane. In coverage can match receivers in quarters and man concepts. Has mirror ability to stay in phase with backs out of the backfield. As a zone player, shows some ability to read the quarterback and receivers but is inconsistent with depth of drop and route recognition. Some hesitancy shows closing a void in a zone and finding the throwing lane. Doesn’t always see and react to routes in his area. While run fits are good at times, he’s hesitant to trigger downhill and can get caught in the wash. Will over pursue at times allowing a cutback. Shorter than ideal arms could be a factor on some missed tackles. Has been a major factor on special teams with a lot of tackle production. Has three down potential and should contribute on special teams.
2024 Stats: 112 T, 12.5 TFL, 7 sacks, 7 PBU, 1 FF. Draft projection: 4th/5th round
