Kentucky | Hometown: Detroit, MI | HT: 6074 | WT: 328 | 40 time: 5.35 | Hand: 1058 | Arm: 3414 | Wing: 8478
Three year starter. Third team All-America and first team All-SEC in 2023. Named a pre-season All-American and third team All-SEC in 2024. He is a massive interior defender with a rare combination of length, size and athletic ability. Lined up all along the Kentucky front playing 4i, five, three, and one technique as an interior defender. He’s also had reps as a wide nine in a two point stance. While not his strength, he’s made some plays from that alignment in the pass rush. Flashes a high motor and has made numerous plays with second effort in his career. At his best he’s quick and explosive at the snap and can penetrate an inside gap or split a double team with quickness and power. Excellent lateral ability to make plays all along the line against the run. Excellent pass rush potential, his hand placement and power is elite to separate from blocks and chase down quarterbacks. Shows a powerful bull rush and gets push collapsing the pocket. Uses a variety of moves and can counter off his initial move. Flashes a closing burst in the backfield and has been effective getting pressure on the quarterback. When lined up in a one or two-i alignment he’s a threat to bat down passes getting in the quarterback’s face. The above descriptions applied consistently in 2023. Last season his weaknesses were much more evident. Plays a little high at times and is inconsistent shedding straight up blocks. Seemed to run out of gas more often and second effort waned as the game wore on. Didn’t consistently show the same explosiveness or lateral movement as he did in 2023. Production was also limited. There were some nagging injuries and the medical evaluations will be important. At his best he’s a dominant player.
2024 Stats: 37 T, 5 TFL, 1.5 sacks, 2 PBU. Draft projection: 3rd/4th round
