Three year starter. First team All-Big 10 in 2023 and 2024. Well-built frame with solid length. Tough physical prospect who has played from wide nine to a four technique. Aligned in both a two and three point stance depending on formation and defensive call. Fundamentally sound on the snap he steps with the inside foot creating a powerful base while shooting his hands to the blocker’s numbers. Stuns blockers with knee bend and power, often getting immediate separation. He can knock an offensive lineman back on his heels creating a two way go on the shed. Adept at setting the edge, quickly coming off the block. Flashes a violent push pull to disengage. Solid tackling skill in close quarters, he’s been productive locating the ball and making plays along the line. Has a variety of pass rush moves, often starting with a bull rush. Gets push and then runs a move. Cross chop, arm under, swipe and spin are some of his go to moves. All stem from a powerful initial strike. Has been consistently productive with his power rush getting tackles off-balance and vulnerable to second moves. He’s not the best lateral mover and agility is average. Lacks elite snap quickness and has to rely almost exclusively on power. With all his positives, he’s been inconsistent and will play high at times and lose leverage and power on blocks. He lacks the bend and explosiveness to get quickly around the arc. Athletic and powerful tackles with fundamental pass sets and base can neutralize his rush. Needs to develop more counters and a plan that accounts for tackles who can handle power. Has the floor of a rotational end in a base 4-3 and can become a solid starter.
