Three year starter. Second team All-Big 10 and consensus second team All-America in 2023 and third team All-Big 10 in 2024. Massive frame with a thick lower body. Played mostly three technique with some one technique based on defensive call. Explosive at the snap he gets into a blocker’s frame with a powerful jolt. Can stun, separate and shed to get into a gap. Consistently neutralizes interior blocks and clogs the middle. He’s effective playing one or two gap but either way he takes up space while finding the ball. Keeps working to the ball and shows lateral movement to get play side leverage. Can make plays along the line working through zone schemes. Tough to reach or straight up single block. Usually dominates those situations. Has been productive making tackles on the interior. Flashes pass rush technique with an arm over, arm under, and hand swipes to get around a blocker. At his best with a bull rush collapsing the pocket. Keeps his feet moving and his powerful lower half is evident. Has been effective getting his hands in the throwing lane when blocked. Can clog up double teams but has been inconsistent and can get moved out. Has trouble quickly recognizing gap and power blocking schemes making him vulnerable to down blocks. At times he’s too easily washed out. Has a tendency to play with a high pad level. This is where he struggles on double teams and working against athletic powerful blockers. Pass rush is limited and he needs to have more of the technique he’s shown at times. Flashes skill in all areas but he needs to develop consistency to reach his potential. His upside will be attractive to NFL teams needing an interior defender.
