Junior entry, two year starter. Second team All-Big 10 in 2023 and 2024 and consensus third team All-America in 2024. Has a thick frame with ideal bulk for an interior defender. Quick and athletic for his size he’s played 0, 1 and 3 techniques and has the ability to align at any interior defensive line position. Comfortable playing one or two gap. He turns quickness into power with a quick first step and strong hand usage to stack and shed. His hands are strong and quick, keeping blocker’s hands away from his body. Excellent stack and shed ability he can dislodge from a block while locating the ball. Anchors well against powerful blockers and shows solid lateral movement while tracking a ball carrier inline. Can attack a gap and get penetration creating havoc with inside runs. Plays with a hot motor and pursues to the whistle often chasing downfield on pass plays. As a pass rusher he’s primarily a collapse the pocket player using his sudden first step and power to create immediate pressure. Has a surprising array of moves including a bull rush, push-pull, arm over and under, along with various hand swipes. Can bull rush into a move and quickly escape. Flashes a closing burst chasing the quarterback. He has some inconsistency in pad level and he can pop upright on occasion out of his stance. When pad level gets high he loses leverage and gets stuck or knocked off the ball on a block. Hand placement can get outside and lack precision at times. He’s been mostly a rotational player and shows a lack of stamina if on the field for long stretches. Still raw in some areas but his power, athletic ability, and elite size makes him an elite prospect. Should fit immediately as a rotational interior defender.
